How do I split a pane?
Click Split in the toolbar. A second pane opens to the right of the one you're in.
- Click in the pane you want to split.
- Click Split in the toolbar. A second pane opens to its right and takes focus.
- Click a note in the note list to open it there.
- Drag the divider between the panes to resize them.
Shortcut: none
Other ways
- Drag a note from the note list or from search results onto the edge of a pane, and drop it on Split.
- Drag a pane's tab onto the edge of another pane.
- Right-click a note in the note list, choose Open as, then Right pane, Left pane, Top pane or Bottom pane. If a pane is already on that side, the note joins it as a tab.
Good to know
- A window holds up to four panes. At four, an edge drop reads Replace and swaps that pane's content instead.
- With two or more panes, the toolbar shows layouts in place of Split.
- A pane closes with its last tab. ⌘W closes the active tab.
- Maximize pane in a pane's header fills the window with it. Press Esc to restore.
