Refund and Cancellation Policy
Effective [EFFECTIVE DATE]
The short version
- Try Terra free for 14 days. You don't need a card, and the trial never turns into a paid plan by itself.
- Plans renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel online at any time.
- In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, you can withdraw within 14 days of buying.
- When a plan ends, you can still open, read, search and print your notes, and copy them anywhere, because they're ordinary files.
Who sells Terra
Terra subscriptions are sold by Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle takes payment, charges tax, issues invoices and handles refunds, under Paddle's Buyer Terms and Refund Policy.
This page explains how those work for Terra, and what we add. It doesn't reduce any right you have under Paddle's terms or the law.
Free trial
- Each new account gets one free 14-day trial, with no card.
- We never charge you at the end of the trial.
- When the trial ends, Terra opens your notes read-only until you subscribe.
Plans and automatic renewal
Terra costs [PRICE] a month or [PRICE] a year, plus any tax that applies.
Before you pay, the pricing page shows next to the checkout button:
- the price and how often you'll be charged;
- that the plan renews automatically until you cancel;
- that the price can change, and that we'll tell you first;
- how to cancel.
You agree to automatic renewal as a separate step before you pay. Your receipt repeats these terms and explains how to cancel.
Reminders and price changes
- Yearly reminder. At least once a year, for every plan, monthly plans included, we email you what you're subscribed to, how much and how often you're charged, and how to cancel.
- Before an annual renewal. For annual plans, we also email you [30 to 45] days before each renewal.
- Price changes. If your price is going to change, we email you 7 to 30 days before the new price applies. The email gives the new amount and tells you how to cancel. Where the law requires your consent to a new price, we ask for it. If you don't agree, your plan ends when the current period ends.
How to cancel
You can cancel any of these ways:
- in Terra, in Settings → Account → Manage subscription, which opens Paddle's customer portal;
- with the Manage subscription link in any email from Paddle;
- at paddle.net.
You don't need to call or email anyone, and we won't make you sit through offers before you can cancel.
Cancelling stops future renewals. You keep full access until the end of the period you've paid for. After that, Terra opens your notes read-only, and you can still open, read, search and print them, and copy them with Finder.
Refunds
EU, EEA, Switzerland and the UK: 14 days to withdraw
- You can withdraw from a purchase within 14 days, without giving a reason, and get a full refund. The 14 days start the day after you buy, and they cover the first payment of a new subscription.
- In the UK, you also get a new 14 days each time an annual plan renews.
- To withdraw in the EU, use "Request withdrawal" in Paddle's customer portal. You can open the portal from Settings → Account → Manage subscription, from the link in your confirmation email, or at paddle.net.
- To withdraw in the UK or Switzerland, request a refund at paddle.net or with the link in your receipt.
- You can also send Paddle the model withdrawal form at the end of this page.
- Your request only needs to be sent before the 14 days are up.
- Paddle refunds you within 14 days of your request, to the payment method you used, without charging a fee.
If you start using Terra straight away:
- [Option A] At checkout, you can ask for access to start immediately and confirm that you understand you then lose the right to withdraw. If you do, the right ends once your access begins, and the confirmation email records your choice.
- [Option B] We'll still refund your first payment if you ask within 14 days of paying.
Everywhere else
- [Option A] Refunds follow Paddle's Refund Policy. Some countries give a fixed refund window by law; for example, Paddle's policy lists 7 days for Canada. Otherwise, Paddle may refund a request made within 14 days, at its discretion.
- [Option B] We refund the first payment of any plan if you ask within 14 days of paying. Request it at paddle.net, or email us at [CONTACT EMAIL].
Renewal payments
Renewal payments aren't refundable, except where the law requires a refund (such as UK annual renewals, above) or Paddle or we agree to one. Cancel before your renewal date to avoid the next charge. The reminders above are there to help.
If Terra doesn't work as promised
Email us first at [CONTACT EMAIL]. If we can't fix the problem, Paddle refunds you where there's a material defect. Any legal right you have to a repair, a price reduction or a refund still applies.
After a refund
Your subscription ends, and Terra opens your notes read-only. The notes themselves aren't affected.
Chargebacks
Please contact Paddle before you dispute a charge with your bank. This doesn't affect your legal rights.
Model withdrawal form (EU, EEA and UK)
You don't have to use this form. If you want to, copy it into an email to Paddle, or use "Request withdrawal" in Paddle's customer portal instead.
