How do I manage tasks, subtasks and repeats?

Click Tasks in the sidebar, add tasks with Add task, and click a card to edit it.

Checked against Terra 0.1.0
  1. Click Tasks in the sidebar. Your tasks show as a Board, in Open, In progress, Done and Cancelled columns.
  2. Click Add task at the foot of a column, type the task and press Return.
  3. Click a card to open the task. Pick its status, and add Due, Start, Priority and more from Properties.
  4. Click Add subtask, type it and press Return. Press Esc when you're done.
  5. Drag a card to another column to change its status.

Shortcut: none

Other ways

  • Type /todo in any note and choose To-do. Every checkbox line in a note is a task.

To make a task repeat, write the rule on the task's line in its note, after :::. For example:

- [ ] Water the plants ::: due=2026-10-06 repeat=weekly

Mark it Done on the Board or in the task, and Terra adds the next one below it with the next due date. Other rules include daily, monthly, yearly and every:2w. The next date counts from due. Add repeat-on=completion to count from the day you finish instead.

Good to know

  • Each task is a line in a note. Add task writes to a note named after the database in Inbox. Click the note's name beside the title to pick another.
  • Subtasks are indented checkboxes under their task.
  • Ticking a repeating task's checkbox inside the note doesn't add the next one. Mark it done on the Board or in the task.
  • Open task in note jumps to its line. Move task to note moves it to another note.
